ABOUT THE CLIENT

In 1970 Penelope Vasilios and her mom Helen moved from Athens, Greece to Buffalo, New York to start a new life, and although she was young when it happened, she never forgot the excitement that came from exploring something new. Location for the Vasillios family may have changed, but years of Greek traditions never did. Fast forward to 1990 and Penelope met the love of her life at Buffalo College. He couldn’t have been more different, coming from a small southern town in Tennessee, but nonetheless it was true love. They had their daughter, Eliza, a few years later and loved their life in Buffalo. In 2000, Nick got unexpectedly sick and passed away. When it was time for Eliza to go to college, she followed in her fathers footsteps and packed her bags for Memphis. It was here that she felt her dad’s influence the most and where she fell in love with southern barbeque and it’s culture. Upon graduation, Eliza moved back to Buffalo with Penelope. The two bonded over how proud Nick would’ve been of Eliza by enjoying their favorite meal: Greek Pita’s. Missing the Memphis BBQ flair, Eliza grabbed her favorite BBQ sauce out of the fridge and put it on her meal. It was there, sitting in a small kitchen in Buffalo, New York that Memphis Memphis came to life.

PROJECT OPPORTUNITY

Memphis Memphis was born out of the idea that two things are better than one. That’s why we wanted to combine two of our favorite things - Greek food and Memphis BBQ. Both have been rooted in the tradition that food isn’t just food and cooking isn’t just cooking. It’s more than that, and so are we.
